The rubble from the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 was bull-dozed into Lake Michigan. The only remaining structure in that area was the Water Tower. All buildings east of Michigan Avenue are erected on the landfill from the fire.
- The name “Chicago” came from a Indian word for “stinky creek” or “onion creek”.
