Pennsylvania Workers Insurance

In the late 1980s, a joint project between the states of Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and the Dallas office of KPMG Peat Marwick was conducted between Scranton, PA, Oklahoma City and Dallas, being that the workers compensation laws of the 2 states were similar enough to make a joint project feasible.

My first excursion there was planned as a flight with 2 partners who ran the project to Newark airport, where they had a lease car to drive to Scranton. I missed the flight, as I was running down the corridor when they began to move it away from the plane. I instead took a flight to Pittsburgh and a direct flight to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Airport (and found every hole in the air) and was waiting at the client site when the 2 partners came sauntering in, talking about me of course.

It is interesting to note that my brief time in Scranton (consisting of 3 or 4 trips) was intended by my managing partner, Jim Wilburn, to urge me to relocate there. My response to him was that it was “a nice town, however, there was a generation of people missing, mine.”
