Twenty years ago, the upcoming election was a piece of cake for this guy, simply vote a straight ticket for the party of choice – in my case, Republican. But these days, it’s not so black and white. The 2016 election was the first one in decades I didn’t even bother to participate in, mainly thinking that it better to “do or say nothing” than “do or say something to be regretted later.” However, the 2020 election will inspire my vote, basically because I figure that a person doesn’t have a right to “kvetch” if they haven’t used the “power” granted them by a democratic government. So here I am on an emotional roller coaster regarding the upcoming election, which in all seriousness, is a welcome relief and distraction from the months-long deadly, global pandemic. I say “roller coaster” because about the time I’ve had it up to “yar” with the current administration, something makes me reverse my opinion – at least, for a short while. When the Republican National Convention began, I was pretty much down on Donald Trump, but watching the second, third, and final nights of the “choreographed” displays from the White House, actually filled me with “Pro-Trump” emotions. However, listening to the follow-up reports by people in the know, made me reconsider my “reversal”. The ones (most of them) which down-played the “Trump Show” at the White House (unprecedented in itself) made me realize that I should have stuck to my original “gut feelings.” On the other hand, at least by “staying the course”, we know what to expect over the next term, and there won’t be any new surprises. I believe it unwise to “change horses midstream”, especially when that “stream” is the unprecedented chaos and anarchy this country is currently going through. Right or wrong, I believe I’ll just vote a straight Republican ticket as was the norm in the past. After all, at least it’ll justify the right to “kvetch” about it for the next 4 years! But don’t consider me a sure vote. After all, I have the right to change my mind!
