Mr. Powell – Ozark Mountain Daredevils

Of all my albums from the 70’s, one of the few I’d listen to when I needed comfort, peace of mind, and a good night’s sleep was Car Over the Lake Album by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, perhaps the most under appreciated band of the era.

Being a history buff, here’s a trivial factoid – this particular song is about John Wesley Powell, an explorer charged with taking an expedition of 10 men to chart new acquisitions from the Louisiana Purchase, down the river that threads through the Grand Canyon.

Lewis and Clarke weren’t the only ones tasked with surveying real estate acquisitions of the Jeffersonian era.
