Madiba Day – Celebration of Freedom

With the Nobel Peace Prize recipient’s 93rd Birthday coming up in July, here is an early celebratory post. I just heard this track today from one of my favorite bands of the late 80s and early 90s, Simple Minds. I don’t know how I would have missed this, but I did, or at least it didn’t make an impression back then.

Madiba is Mandela’s alias in the Xhosa language among the Bantu people of South Africa.

I can’t help but be reminded of my lady friend Leslie Young from Durban, SA. We were together for several months but went our separate ways after she offered to compensate me if I were to take her as my wife in order for her to obtain U.S. citizenship. I may have done it if I was sure she would come up with the cash. Leslie was not as “Young” as she led me to believe, in fact, about eight years older. Oh well, dat is het leven!
