It seems that the massive surge in accusations of sexual misconduct have become the latest news fad. Why is this trend all the rage in the national news now? Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Charlie Rose, Al Franken, and most recently, Matt Lauer. Did all of these high profile men suddenly start taking Cialis or Viagra? Or maybe it’s a result of rising sexual tension enhanced by easy access to pornographic content on the internet. Perhaps, this phenomenon has always been a common occurrence but victims have finally broken their code of silence.
Even Monica Lewinsky has re-surfaced, a reminder that no one person is of a high enough stature to be exempt from this carnal scandal. Did President Clinton’s misdeeds start this trend and has it re-kindled due to Hillary’s rise to prominence?
It could be said that “power”, whether in politics, the film industry, business, or even on the playing field, is a potent aphrodisiac.
Could it be that this current media campaign is respite from the, almost daily it seems, string of violent tragedies in America? A diversion from the antics of our President, now in office for a year?
Through the 60s and 70s, I experienced the “sexual revolution” as a youngster growing into adulthood. Now being middle-aged, it’s all about the new “sexual harassment revolution”!
